Swiss Butchery Celebrates CNY

For the first time since its establishment, Swiss Butchery is joining in the fray for a share of the Chinese New Year market. From 8th January 2018 to 26th February 2018, Swiss Butchery introduces their Spring Festive Special Menu for expats and locals alike, we had a first taste and we were pleasantly surprised!

The Food

For a place that does not focus on Asian cuisine, I must say that they managed to encapsulate the Asian aspect for most dishes on the menu. An added bonus? All their items on the menu are extremely affordable! I’m talking about below market rate affordable! Kudos to you Swiss Butchery!

swiss butchery pork belly

Signature Roasted Pork Belly (Approx. 1.2kg), $28.80

Definitely my favorite. Who doesn’t love Sio Bak am I right? I mean, provided if it’s done right of course. And of course, it’s perfect at Swiss Butchery. The crackling was crispy, the fats melt in your mouth and the pork meat was tender and juicy. Just perfect. I did a double take when I saw the price too, it’s soooo much value!

swiss butchery braised duck

Braised Whole Duck With Chestnut Filling, $68

I don’t know about you, but my grandma used to make braised duck porridge when I was a wee little laddie and the braised duck at Swiss Butchery tasted just like that! (Grandma’s will always be the best though). It just reminded me of a simpler time and brought out a lot of positive energy while I was eating it.

swiss butchery brasied pork ribs

Special Braised Pork Rib With Chilli, $48

If you’re not a fan of sweet foods, this is probably not for you since they use a sweet chilli. Which means, the spice is extremely mild. Other than that, the meat was really tender and it’s a great menu item to mix it up this CNY.

 swiss butchery chicken gelatin

Traditional Spicy Chicken In Gelatin, $42

This was a huge surprise in all honesty. When you chew on the gelatin, it dissipates in throughout the palate spreading a slightly salty and herby aftertaste which compliments the chicken extremely well. Any more Asian and It would be a soup.

swiss butchery bak kwa

Swiss Butchery Bak Kwa (Classic/Spicy), $18.80/$19.90 per pack

Now, what’s CNY without the all fattening and sinful Bak Kwa? For first timers, I felt that their Baw Kwa were pretty spot on. No one can deny how good it tastes. I particularly liked the spicy ones (they’re really spicy).

swiss butchery oysters

Fresh European Oysters, $10 for 3 or $4.30 a piece

Imported directly from Ireland and France, their oysters are sweet, fresh and slightly leaner to their Australian counterparts. And at $10 for 3 oysters, I’ll take all of them please.

Is the juice worth the squeeze?

For sure! Everything tastes great and oh-so-affordable. You just got to try that Roast Pork Belly! That’s not all though, Swiss Butchery has CNY cookies, Yu Sheng and Hot Pot Delights (for that steamboat dinner) available on their festive menu as well! Don’t forget to get some oysters too!

Check out their  full menu HERE! Remember, it’s only available from the 8th of January to the 26th of February
