As the festive season approaches, the holiday collection launches begin and we are liking what we have seen so far. Honestly, this is what we have been waiting for all year and the holiday season sees some of the biggest launches of the year.
While it is not all holiday collections, there will be upcoming collaborations you might want to keep your eyes out for because some of these limited edition products will be going out the door fast. That we can guarantee.
Let’s not waste anymore time and let us jump right into it!
1st Shu Uemura x Super Mario Bros
Cult-status Japanese beauty brand has just teamed up with the iconic Super Mario for its 2017 holiday range. Inspired by the popular Nintendo video game, the exclusive collection features a lineup which includes lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, liquid eyeliners and of course, their cleansing oil — all boasting adorabler motifs from the video game. The double-ended eyeliner even has a star-shaped stamp on one end, not that it is practical, but hey, who really cares about practicality when it’s Super Mario.
“Super Mario Bros. is one cultural aspect that is representative of Japan. It’s also really, really popular overseas,” Shu Uemura’s international artistic director Kakuyasu Uchiide tells WWD. Honestly though, you don’t have to be a gamer or a girl to appreciate the super-kawaii packaging. They even have hair products which guys can use!
2nd Anastasia Beverly Hills
ABH fans might recognise the new highlighter quad from this new launch. “As always, glow is top of mind at ABH, so we brought back favorite glow shades and one new color in a limited-edition glow kit called Sugar.” says ABH President Claudia Soare. Marshmallow, Butterscotch and Starburst, are now combined with the new shade, Gumdrop to create the new glow kit.
On top of the highlighter quad, this launch sees a new eyeshadow palette called PRISM which is all about bold metallics and complementary mattes. This came as a surprise as 1) Subculture was only launched two months ago and 2) the colours are incredibly similar to Subculture. Reddit user Sasha_Fire claimed that it might be “a move to put the subculture behind them”. However, while there are some people who are disappointed with this, there are also fans who prefer this over Subculture. Will there be another controversy? We shall see.
5th Colourpop x My Little Pony
My Little Pony lovers rejoice, because our favourite makeup brand – Colourpop is launching a collaboration with them. This limited-edition collection will be released just in time for the My Little Pony movie premiere, the day before actually, and people are going crazy over it.
If you haven’t already gotten the theme, there’s a mix of purples, red and pastels, just like the ponies. If you aren’t into My Little Pony, don’t skip this just yet. We recommend stocking up on the eyeshadows and liquid lipstick for christmas as stocking stuffer gifts for your annoying little sister who keeps getting into your makeup stash. At a similar price point to all their other products, this limited edition collection is pretty affordable. You will thank us later.
6th Nars x Man Ray
Using photographer Man Ray as his muse, François Nars has created the holiday 2017 collection by incorporating the artist’s iconic works onto the packaging. The makeup artist worked with the Man Ray Foundation to create the 23-piece lineup. While some of the products will be limited edition, there are also a few existing products which will be making an appearance within the Love Triangle sets. Hint: it includes blush and lipstick duos.
However, the one thing which we are most excited about would be the Double Take Overexposed Glow Highlighter. From the swatches we have seen, this gold highlighter is stunning! We are pretty sure that it will fly off the shelves once this collection launches!
Kylie recently announced the latest in her cosmetics collection, just in time for Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. She first teased: “The Purple Palette #StayTuned,” before posting the pic of the collection on Twitter later, writing: “The Purple Palette 10.6.17 @kyliecosmetics.” Just like most of her other palettes, this palette has an array of nine gorgeous hues ranging from a neutral brown to a burgundy and a shimmering bronze.
While she doesn’t share how much the new eyeshadow palette is, we are guessing that it will be USD$42, like her typical nine shadow palette. Kylie also revealed the five new Kylie Cosmetics Fall Lip Kits: Autumn, Hazel, Butternut, Libra and Wicked and explains her collection as “colors she’s never done before”. We definitely agree and think that it is perfect for Autumn and the upcoming Halloween.
13th Huda beauty
Adding to her range of faux lashes, liquid lipsticks, highlighters and eyeshadows, Huda is on her way to a full range with the new Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation. It is said to give a full coverage and a natural, skin-like finish at the same time which sounds amazing to us and from the photo she posted, it looks amazing too!
Huda wrote on her website that she has “always been fascinated with skin tones, and as a makeup artist, constantly working with new people really gives you a deep understanding of the vast array of shades.” She said her team tried shade matching everyone they knew, and ended up with 30 hues that “embrace and celebrate all skin tones — from the very fair to rich and deep skin tones, beiges, olives, and golden shades.”
After a long two year wait, this foundation will finally be launching in 30 shades together with the Complexion Perfection Primer and a fluffy angled blender brush to apply your foundation with.
13th Fenty Beauty
Just as we thought it was over, Rihanna announced yet another collection – dropping this October, merely one month from her very first launch. She unveiled The Galaxy Collection, which is also the Holiday Collection, at a launch event at Sephora in Paris on Thursday. While the first launch was all about the neutrals, the Galaxy Collection is the complete opposite and features shimmering metallics, bold liquid eyeliners, and brightly coloured lip shades.
For lipstick lovers, you will be pleased to hear that the Galaxy Collection will be including four Cosmic Gloss lip glosses and four Lip Glitter lipsticks – a coral, pink, lavender and autumnal berry red. The collection will also include a 14 shade eyeshadow palette that’s made up of vibrant metallic shades of gold, silver and pewter as well as bright pink, purple, blue and green, all housed in jewel-toned rainbow iridescent packaging.
The launch of Fenty Beauty was a massive success, and it will not be surprising if this launch does just as well despite being drastically different from the very first launch. Afterall, she is rihanna.
19th Mac Snow Ball Holiday 2017
MAC has nailed the packaging for the holiday collection this year and ever since we first saw the preview photos of the Extra Dimension Skinfinish in that gorgeous packaging, we knew that the collection is going to be incredible. Expect lots of gold and sparkle (I mean who’s complaining, we all love gold and sparkles right?), pigments and mini lipstick sets as well as limited edition lipsticks, eyeshadows and so on.
We can go on all day about this collection but in this case, a picture is worth a thousand words. Not sure about you, but this is definitely going onto our Christmas wish list! This is definitely our favourite holiday collection for 2017 thus far!
